Dear O-friends,

The Portugal "O"-Meeting (POM) is a four-day International Orienteering Competition organized by Portuguese clubs every year, usually around the Carnival weekend.

POM 2008 will take place from the 2nd until the 5th of February of 2008 in the Algarve, the southernmost region of continental Portugal. It comprises two Middle Distance Event, one Middle/Long Distance event and one Long Distance Event. The Long Distance Event of Day 2 of POM 2008 is included in the WRE series. Official training camps are also available in the days immediately preceding and following POM 2008.

Algarve is a popular tourist destination because of its sun, beaches, golf resorts, beauty of its scenery, and tasty food. As we intend to show you, in addition to all of these, it can also be an excellent environment for the practice of Orienteering.

The two Organizing Clubs of POM 2008 --- CIMO (Clube Ibérico de Montanhismo e Orientação) and J.D.F (Juventude Desportiva das Fontainhas) --- welcome you to the POM 2008 website. We are delighted to organize this special event for you and will do our best to make it a first class sporting and social event. We will be available at all times to help you make the best of your time in Portugal.

You will find in this website all the information you need about the competition events and training camps, registration procedures, accommodation booking, and any other matters required to allow you to have a pleasant orienteering and holiday experience. Dear Friends,

My first words are to welcome your participation in the Portugal “O”-Meeting 2008 and to wish you an excellent competition.

The Portuguese Orienteering Federation (FPO) and its affiliated clubs CIMO and JDF are well aware that events are only grand and memorable if they have a large participation, and thus your presence is the best reward for any organizer. I am completely sure that the event organizers have done, and will do, everything within their reach to provide you with an event you will remember fondly.

Yours, participating athletes, is the “duty” of enjoying the dedicated work of all the organizing team and of turning POM’08 into a unique moment, not only competition-wise, but also from a social gathering standpoint.

I wish you all a pleasant stay in Portugal and an excellent POM’08. With warm regards,

Augusto Almeida.

The president of FPO

It will be an enormous pleasure and motivation to welcome everyone to try the 4 days of orienteering in the most southern area of Portugal, also known as a region of many hours of brilliant sunshine throughout the year - The Algarve.

It will be our main objective to offer good maps, excellent courses and organisation that a race like the POM deserves.

I wish everyone, in my personal name and also in the name of all the team at CIMO, an unforgettable journey of orienteering.

Pedro Carvalho

The President of CIMO

It is with great pleasure that Juventude Desportiva das Fontaínhas is associated with the organisation of the POM - Portugal “O” Meeting - 2008.

Being the most impresive orienteering event in Portugal, with the greatest number of participants, it will no doubt be a memorable event, for both the competitors and the organisers.

For all of you, my sincere thanks for your participation and contribution to the enrichment of this event and also the sport of Orienteering.

I wish everyone an execellent participation and that you all obtain your personal and sporting goals.

Valter Cabrita

The President of JDF.

The practise of sport which promotes a healthy lifestyle and well being is fundamental, so it is with great pleasure we welcome the POM 2008 as well as all the participants in this international competition. To practise a sport which at the same time benefits from nature and makes us feel a part of it, with the chance to explore and respect it, is the real essence of orienteering.
This is one activity practised by all ages from childhood to adults, that provides an improvement in the physical and cognitive skills and opens " the doors" to the world of nature.I salute all the competitors -professional and novice-who participate in the POM 2008 and I invite you, if you have not decided yet to enter, to try this type of sport. Practise a lot of sport, discover nature and above all enjoy yourself.

José Apolinário

The Mayor of Faro

It is with great pride and satisfaction that we welcome, for the first time in our city, on the 2nd of February, the Portugal Orienteering Meeting 2008. Once again we are opening our doors to sports activities, to the athletes and to all who enjoy the sport of Orienteering and the direct contact with nature.

Tavira benefits from a extraordinary ecological environment like the Natural Park of Ria Formosa at the seaside, and interior bands with typical landscape of ’barrocal’ and mountains, which provides excellent conditions to practise the sport of Orienteering.

To both Organising clubs, CIMO (Clube Ibérico de Montanhismo e Orientação) e JDF (Juventude Desportiva das Fontainhas), I give my best congratulations for the commitment shown in the realisation of this international competition.

To all the athletes and participants I wish you the best success, and that you benefit from your visit to this beautiful area and come back to visit us again, certainly you will always be welcome.

José Macário Correia

The Mayor of Tavira

Vila Real de Santo António always welcomes the athletes and sport events which promote Portugal.
Our Sports Complex is being improved for new types of sport, with better quality of facilities, to serve all of those who choose us because of the good welcome they receive from the technical staff and the pleasant atmosphere the council offers.
I wish all of you the best of success.
Be welcome and come back again

Luís Gomes

The Mayor of Vila Real de Santo António
